Gombe national park is a natural habitat for several small primates including chimpanzees, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, red colobus, beachcomber olive baboons and red-tailed monkeys. The chimpanzees are the most popular of all the primates and also there is a rare occurrence of red-tailed monkeys and blue monkeys crossbreeding in the forest.
The park is also home to over 200 species of birds, most notably the African fish eagle, Kenya rufous sparrow, Livingstone’s turaco, Palm-nut vultures and African paradise flycatcher. Other animals present include bush pigs, hippos, snakes and leopards.
